How to download your trade book from your broker

To track your shares in Quantfolio, download your trade history (or just today's holdings) from your broker as CSV or Excel and upload it. Here's where each broker keeps it. Menu names change from time to time, so look for the closest match.

Zerodha

Full trade history (best: exact returns and tax)

  1. Open Console (console.zerodha.com) → Reports → Tradebook.
  2. Choose Equity and a date range, then Download → CSV.
  3. Long history? Download one financial year at a time and import each file.
  4. Mutual funds bought on Coin: same page, Segment → Mutual Funds, and import that file too.

Or just today's holdings (quickest start)

  1. Open Console → Portfolio → Holdings.
  2. Click Download and pick Excel: its Mutual Funds sheet comes in along with your shares.

Any other broker

Full trade history (best: exact returns and tax)

Or just today's holdings (quickest start)

  1. Download your holdings list (stock, quantity, average cost) as Excel or CSV.
  2. Or fill in the holdings template.

Trade history or holdings: which to use?

The trade history gives exact results: your real XIRR, realised gains and the right tax year for every sale. The holdings list is quicker: it starts your portfolio from a date you choose, at your average cost, and new trades are added from then on.

Mutual funds bought outside your broker come in from the CAS statement instead; see the mutual fund tracker.

Frequently asked questions

What file does Quantfolio need?

Any CSV or Excel (.xlsx) file with one row per trade: the date, the stock (name, symbol or ISIN), buy or sell, quantity and price. Most brokers call it the trade book, tradebook or trade history.

My file has a few lines of text above the table. Is that a problem?

No. Quantfolio looks past title and account lines to find the header row. If the columns have unusual names, it asks you once which column is which and remembers that layout for next time.

I have an old .xls file. What do I do?

Open it in Excel or Google Sheets and save it as .xlsx or CSV, then upload that.

What happens to F&O rows in the file?

They're left out of the stock import, so nothing is counted twice. Futures and options go in the F&O section instead.

Can I import the same file twice by mistake?

Trades that are already in your portfolio are skipped, so importing an overlapping file doesn't double them.
